SCARCE was honored to receive the Public Education Award from the Illinois Associaton for Floodplain and Stormwater Management (IAFSM) in March 2009. Mary Lou Kalsted, a member of the IAFSM Awards Committee, wrote us a very kind email, which we have shared below. The SCARCE team is appreciative of every opportunity to educate the public regarding the importance of water conservation and stormwater management. Our many thanks to IAFSM for selecting SCARCE as this year's recipient!
"The Illinois Association for Floodplain and Stormwater Management (IAFSM) annually gives a number of awards in several categories, to projects, organizations, and individuals working in the field of floodplain and stormwater management.
One of the awards is the Public Education Award, given to individuals or agencies who have contributed to public awareness of floodplain or stormwater management issues. IAFSM is honoring SCARCE this year with this award.
SCARCE does an amazing job here in the DuPage County area, educating teachers and school kids, government officials, business people, and the general public. Moreover, you empower others to carry that message to many more people than your organization alone could reach.
The award will be presented on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at a luncheon during IAFSM's annual conference. The conference is attended by around 350 professionals from government (FEMA, State of Illinois, counties, municipalities), engineers, water resource professionals, environmental professionals, and others.
Congratulations on the award! Please let me know if someone from SCARCE can make the trip to Champaign!"
