"I've seen Kay give the 3R's presentation several times. Each time, I learn something new" --- Sue Tripp |
SCARCE is my "home away from home." Every time I come here I load up the car with fabulous text books, workbooks, supplies and library books for my classroom. Practically all of the books in my classroom library are from SCARCE. I've brought other teachers from my school and they are amazed at all the books and supplies. It's all free!! It's an hour away from my home but worth the trip every time. Thanks for everything!" Mary Ann Chicago Public School Teacher October 7, 2010

"Meeting with Kay, from SCARCE, to discuss the “Earth Flag for Businesses” initiative was an enlightening and informative experience. It was evident from the onset of our meeting that Kay McKeen is a very knowledgeable and dedicated conservationist. In the short amount of time it took to conduct our “green audit,” we learned many simple ways that Subaru Great Lakes Region can modify its business practices to conserve energy and other valuable resources. Shutting off a light switch and computer monitor at the end of the workday will conserve energy. Distributing recycling receptacles throughout our office space will promote the recycling of paper, cardboard, aluminum cans and other materials. These nearly effortless gestures will allow each of us to make a difference in contributing toward the overall “green” environment we wish to maintain at our regional location.
The single most important aspect of our meeting, however, was how our awareness of “green” opportunities immediately increased. Both Linda and I are now more in tune to “green” discussions on the radio, articles in the media and information found by reading labels on products in our household. It is amazing how quickly our paradigm shifted and how much more cognizant we are of environmental impact. We wish to extend our thanks to Kay, and the SCARCE team, for educating us in such an important mission. We look forward to working with them to learn more about environmental strategies that we can adopt for our workplace." - Debbie Jeffries, Information Technology Analyst, at Subaru of America, Inc. |
"Kay McKeen from SCARCE gave a very informative presentation on July 10th. I received many e-mails following this luncheon saying they wanted me to have her back and best speaker we have ever had!" -- Patricia Haskins --Warrenville Chamber of Commerce

"Dear SCARCE,
We would like to express our sincerest thanks for the 176 books you donated to the annual St. Isidore Thanksgiving Drive! On Sunday November 21, we were able to provide full Thanksgiving meals to 310 families to take home and cook.
Due to your generosity every child that walked through our doors that night, from infants to teenagers, was able to receive between five and seven almost new books. All remaining books, board games and videos/dvd's that remained after the drive were sent to services to local residents. Thank you for feeding the minds of those that hunger for it while others feed their stomachs!
On behalf of our Thanksgiving 2010 Coordnator, Michelle Peluso, and St. Isidore, I thank you for generously answering our request and making our 2010 Thanksgiving Drive so successful.
Sincerely, Ane Berg Director Human Needs Ministries St. Isadore Catholic Church |

"NOW Foods has been partnering with SCARCE for a number of years. This partnership led us to undertake efforts which resulted in SCARCE recognizing NOW Foods as the first for-profit company to earn the Earth Flag for Business. The experience has been extremely positive for our company as a whole and for individual employees. For NOW, the Earth Flag is a symbol of what we can achieve when we work together to promote environmental sustainability. It’s a symbol of what we’ve accomplished, and a symbol of what we continually strive to be. Since being awarded the Earth Flag, NOW has been recognized by the Illinois Recycling Association with the 2007 Outstanding Business Recycling Program award. Our recycling program diverted almost 50% of our refuse from the landfill and provides NOW with a financial benefit of $40,000 a year. Our Board of Directors recently chartered an Environmental Sustainability Committee which endeavors to implement measures which conserve energy and resources. SCARCE has been, and continues to be, integral to NOW’s environmental efforts. We consider SCARCE a partner and an invaluable resource." - Dan Scoles, Safety Manager, at NOW Foods |

"Once again, I want you to know how very grateful I am that you exist. The materials I have found at SCARCE and the ideas they generate are just wonderful. I am so excited to share those ideas with you just as I have been sharing the materials with the other teachers in my Special Needs program."
The teachers from this center developed very creative lesson plans with materials they have gathered from SCARCE. Our team was so deeply touched with their letter, and we wanted to share their excellent examples to inspire you with your special needs children. We thank the teachers of this cooperative for sending such thoughtful examples of their lesson plans. We’re so thankful for the meaningful work that you are doing at your school!
