NATIONAL LEAD POISONING PREVENTION WEEK OCTOBER 23-29
The US EPA announces National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week to raise awareness with children and lead poisoning. Even low levels of lead can be harmful to children and adults.
"Lead poisoning can have life-altering health effects, especially on our children. But it is entirely preventable if we take the right steps to protect our children in all the places where they live, learn and play," EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson said. "National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week gives us the opportunity to strengthen our awareness and prevention efforts and ensure parents have the tools they need to protect their children against lead exposure every day of the year."
Ways you can help protect children:
• Get your home tested. Have your home inspected if you live in a home built before 1978. • Get your child tested. Even if your young children seem healthy, ask your doctor to test them for lead. • Get the facts. Visit leadfreekids.org or call 1-800-424-LEAD.

As you do your fall clean up of yard waste, be cautious of what you are composting, stuffing in yard waste bags or putting on your curb for collection. There are many common contaminates that end up with composting that can not be composted. NO golf balls, tennis balls, metal, dog toys, plastic toys, balloons, railroad ties, painted lumber or any other foreign objects that were not made by nature. The only thing that should go into compost piles, yard waste bags or on the curb for collection should grow out of the ground, on plants/trees! Thanks for taking the time to do your part. |
