ADAPTED FOR KIDS BY KIDS
CRAYON PROJECT
This wonderful project gives kids the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of their peers. Local schools and individuals donate the crayons for this project. The broken crayons are sorted by color, peeled and melted down by various student organizations. These melted crayons are then poured into candle molds to create SUPER CRAYONS. Children with special needs who would ordinarily be unable to grasp regular crayons use these SUPER CRAYONS. This is just one of the ways that Adapted for Kids by Kids is bringing awareness to children in our communities.
Peeling and Sorting Directions
- Separate “almost new” crayons for Tools for Schools; DO NOT PEEL OR SORT BY COLOR. If applicable, make sets of 12 and put into clean, empty Altoid Tins.
- Sort and peel broken crayons according to the colors below and place into boxes, bags, or whatever containers you have around. Avoid using containers with narrow openings, as they are difficult to empty. Put peeled paper in the garbage (it can't be recycled).
- We make 16 colors: Red, Pink, Orange, Peach, Yellow, Lime, Green, Teal, Blue, Turquoise, Purple, Lavender, Gray, Brown, Black & White. When in doubt, use your best judgment.
- Once a container is full with peeled crayons empty it into a bag or box; avoid using containers with narrow openings, as it is hard to empty out the crayons.
