Books to Keep At Home

"My district has a high poverty level; very few students can afford ordering from Scholastic Books. Before Spring Break, I asked the students if they wanted me to go to SCARCE and they overwhelming said "YES!". Just today, a girl was joyfully sharing facts with her classmates from a book called Dino Poop. This book was from SCARCE and needed a little repair so I taped it up and cleaned it up. I am a big believer in recycling and reusing especially books; I tell the students that they can bring back the books if they find they don't like them. Without SCARCE, my students would not have access to books of their own. Research shows that more books in the home means better reading levels which is why I give my students books to keep."
